Why Missions?

As the Father sent Jesus into the world to provide salvation, Jesus sends his followers into the world to share the good news that this salvation is available to everyone, regardless of religion, culture, or lifestyle. Because the world is a glorious yet broken place, we share the gospel in word and deed.

What Does a Missionary Do and
Where
?

The specifics of how and where a missionary serves are as varied as what God wants to do among people in the world, wherever they are. Missionaries focus on the opportunities that God creates to address human need globally and locally.

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”- Matthew 9:35-38
Matthew 9:35 -38:  Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.

How Do I Become A Missionary?

The journey begins in the heart of proactive disciples of Christ who are actively seeking direction from God about how to represent the interests of Jesus Christ in the world. The process of becoming a missionary is both deeply spiritual as well as practical.

Who We Are

Missions has been in the DNA of Hawthorne Gospel Church since its founding. One of our core values states: God’s great love for the world motivates us to reach out with creative and caring ways of sharing the gospel. Locally we will build bridges to the people in our communities and globally we devote ourselves to world missions.
Since the church’s first missionary went to Africa in 1939 HGC has maintained a strong commitment to this cause. They have planted new churches, served the needs of these new communities, discipled young people from every walk of life, provided health care and fed, clothed the poor, built schools, provided leadership development and training, worked with literacy, and organizational support.
Missionaries from Hawthorne Gospel Church have also taken the initiative to introduce the gospel into “unreached people groups” who have no access to local churches - and the list of what they do or have done goes on and on.  And all this is done with the desire to share the gospel so that people come to know God and to grow in their relationship with him.

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:13-15

Present Day Focus

When you read the biographies of our missions partners you will notice that they are just ordinary people. They come from every background and walk of life, not superstars or super spiritual. But they all felt the tug of God on their hearts to share the good news of the gospel.

The work is as varied as the people.  Some of the ways God can use us to share the gospel will take the willing into the hardest places on earth. So, for security reasons we have blocked out those names and pictures.
