Where do you work?

After serving among the Quechua people in Bolivia since 1988, I moved to SIM’s US Charlotte, NC office in 1996. God blessed me with a wonderful wife and life partner, Esther, for 39 years. We raised our family in Bolivia serving among the Quechua people. Esther went to be with Jesus in 2019. In 2021 God provided a new life partner and wife with Dr. Debbie Hix Christensen, DDS. We are now making a new home and life together in Huntersville, NC. God is teaching us new rhythms to care for our souls and the souls of the family and friends that we love.

Describe what you do.

I manage finances for SIM workers around the world, including individual budgeting, payroll and benefits, and expense reporting. I train new and veteran workers how to build and maintain a full and engaged prayer and financial support team.

Why did you choose your ministry? What led you to that ministry?

God awakened my heart to serve in missions at a mission’s conference at Hawthorne Gospel Church back when I was a university student. I explored short term missions with Operation Mobilization in Europe and came home convinced that God was calling me to serve in cross cultural missions.

When did you make the decision to serve in missions - how old were you?

I was 20 years old.

Why did you decide on serving in this way? Why missions?

It was all God. I remember veteran HGC missionary Ed Schuit preaching from Isaiah 6. He recalled how Isaiah heard the voice of God and said, “Here am I send me!”  That’s how I responded, and then let God lead me step by step towards serving in missions.

Have you had other occupations?

I worked in New York City and NJ in risk management, Certified Public Accountant, and as an interim Youth Pastor, Missions Pastor, and Church Administrator at Hawthorne Gospel Church before becoming a missionary with SIM.

Gardening, hiking, cycling, kayaking, spending time with family
